In high-tempo automotive assembly, a static rack maintenance schedule is a recipe for line stoppage. Your AGV Compatible Racks are subjected to constant Underride lifting forces and lateral G-forces that static shelving never faces. Ignoring the specific fatigue points of mobile robotics can lead to catastrophic structural failure when transporting heavy EV battery packs or powertrain components.

1. Structural Integrity: Fighting Vibration Loosening

Unlike static warehousing, racks mated with Underride AGVs endure a unique stress cycle: the “Lift-Transport-Drop” sequence. When a 1.5-ton AGV drives under the rack and engages its hydraulic lift, it exerts a massive upward force. This is immediately followed by acceleration and deceleration vibrations during transport to the SPS (Set Parts Supply) area.

This dynamic loading is the primary enemy of the traditional “Hook-and-Slot” beam design. In an automotive environment, we strictly recommend a Fully Bolted Structure using High-tensile Steel Q355. If your current fleet uses standard racking, your first maintenance priority is checking for beam disengagement.

The Bolt Torque Protocol

For racks carrying EV Battery Modules or heavy stamping dies, a visual inspection is insufficient.

2. Flow System and Shooter Mechanism Calibration

In Line-side Supply scenarios, many automotive plants utilize Gravity Flow systems or Karakuri (Shooter) mechanisms for automatic material discharge. A jammed roller isn’t just an annoyance; it breaks the FIFO (First-In-First-Out) cycle, potentially allowing expired sealants or bonding agents to reach the assembly line.

Why are my AGVs failing to dock with the flow racks?

This is usually a caster issue. If a caster is seized or has developed a flat spot, the rack will not align perfectly parallel to the AGV’s approach path. Also, check if the QR Code Calibration Matte underneath the rack is covered in oil or dust.

Can we weld repairs on Q355 steel AGV racks?

We generally advise against field welding for AGV racks. Welding alters the heat treatment of the high-tensile steel and can introduce warping, which ruins the millimeter-level precision required for robotic interaction. Replace damaged modular bolted parts instead.

Do Gravity Flow rollers need lubrication?

High-quality flow rails typically use sealed bearings that are maintenance-free. Adding external grease in a dusty automotive environment (like near the stamping line) will actually attract grit and cause the rollers to seize, disrupting FIFO.

What is the torque spec for the anti-loosening bolts?

This depends on the bolt size (M10 vs M12) used in your custom design. However, for our standard Q355 bolted structure, we provide a specific torque chart in the user manual. It is critical to use a calibrated torque wrench, not an impact gun, to ensure the serrated flange nuts lock correctly.
